Another ECPL team bites the dust!

Recommended Posts

Marjons Reserves have pulled out of the ECPL with immediate effect. Now just 13 in the league and another victim in the local grassroots football circle.

In the last year we've lost Marjons Res, Lanreath, Liskeard Res, Padstow, Veryan, just off the top of my head! Been many others struggling for sides on a Saturday too.

Very sad

On behalf of Marjons, I would like to apologise to the the league and clubs for our withdrawal from the league. We entered the league 3 years ago straight from U18 and although took a few beatings, primarily from Mount Gould, Torpoint and St Dominick, it was a great learning experience for the lads. Last year we improved significantly as the lads grew and matured, losing narrowly twice to Mount Gould and Torpoint and drawing twice with St Dominick. Preseason gave us plenty of cause for optimism, beating 4 of the current top 6 Devon League sides and losing to a last minute winner at St Dominick. The season started well by winning our first 2 games, beating our nemesis in Torpoint and away at St Teath. However, injury struck in that game, losing our keeper for every game since and not being able to find a reliable replacement, players took in turn to go in goal. Picking up more injuries, the squad soon began to struggle with numbers, some of our better players were approached by higher league teams and got tempted due to the struggles we were facing and being paid to play, COVID arrived in the camp etc.. Despite best efforts, we have been unable to sign players to play regularly as they don’t want to leave current teams and we have therefore been left with little choice than to withdraw.

We have thoroughly enjoyed playing in this league, there are some great clubs and people involved with running them and we wish them every success going forward. I’m sure there will be a few not sorry to see us leave so that the league can revert back to being only Cornish sides but from our perspective, the young lads learned a great deal, their game developed superbly and we leave with nothing but praise for the league

Good luck to all and thanks for having us!

Sorry to hear this, always a good footballing side with genuine management team who were fair to the opposition and referees.
