Ian Pethick
With Falmouth Town returning to the Western League for the first time in 39 years this weekend, I thought people may be interested to read the match reports from their final game of the 1982/83 season (when they finished a credible 6th place) which I came across while researching another subject. This was , of course, their last game before withdrawing from the league and the end of a golden chapter in the club's history. Town Fan
I believe Clandown sadly folded around 2004, while Dawlish resigned from the Western League in 2011.
Mike Odgers
Reading the report -Falmouth departed the Western League in style with one of their best displays of the season which denied Clandown 3rd.position and £250. Maurice Cox and Wayne Stamenkovic the goalscorers but playing with 10 men for 3/4 of the game Tommy Wheeldon (ex Everton) being sent off for Town and then manager Jimmy Hargreaves substituting the injured Colin Riches made it a memorable occasion. the sporting Clandown fans gave the Falmouth team a standing ovation and guard of honour after the final whistle and their Social club set up a slap up meal and a presentation of a commemorative plaque. Falmouth finished 6th and Clandown 4th.

You could say that a team that had the likes of Cox, Stamenkovic, Wheeldon, Allan Pluckrose, Jerry Collins, Derek Bellotti, Neil Penwill, Kim Rooke and Colin Riches within it possibly underachieved in finishing 6th. TUFCJon
Hargreaves, Cox, Stamenkovic, Wheeldon, Pluckrose, Collins, Bellotti all at Torquay United just before or just after this.

Find this a fascinating, and little talked about, part of Falmouth Town's history. Looks like they gambled everything on returning to the Western League glory days, it didn't work and they resigned from the league. Done a bit of digging around on this, appears that leaving the league was news to the manager (Hargreaves) and that they expected Liskeard and Saltash to follow (they didn't).
