Given the pedigree of Jake Ash in this competition, would fancy them for a run deep into the Vase. When the draw expands, clubs would not fancy a trip down to Trungle Parc. It was a great game - certainly not as one-sided as the scoreline suggests. Regular keeper Ollie Chenoweth was away getting married and regular stand-in Piran Jones is injured so we had 16yo Lewis Moyle in goal and he pulled off a couple of absolutely outstanding saves including one when the score was 3-1 that could have made it a different finale. Overall I think it was the quality of our goal scoring that meant we were eventually deserving winners (the goals are up on the Mousehole Twitter account if anyone wants to take a look). There’s a lot of competition for “most welcoming Western League club” but Mallet would be right up there. Away to Lydney Town in the next round. Paul
Decent home draw for St Blazey. Should be an intresting tie. Good that most clubs have avoided each other and get to play teams from elsewhere either home or away. SteveM

Mousehole were superb, played excellent football as they always have whenever I've seen them and scored 5 really good goals. Some of them were fantastic individual efforts and some of them really good team goals. It was as good a performance by a Western League side as I have seen for a few years. Dave Deacon
We seem to be heading way off the title subject of this thread, although are you mentioning Truro as they’re the only Cornish club to have won the Vase?
Yourhavingalaugh
I still consider St Austell getting to the semi-final of the FA Vase being a greater achievement than Truro winning the trophy. Although in reality it’s not, St Austell did come from nowhere with a group of players which were generally local with limited experience at a higher level. Epic effort by all accounts. Dave Deacon
All the results added. St Blazey 1-2 Thornbury Disappointing result for our last remaining SWPL Cornish side in the competition today. Never got going first half with too often overhitting any balls intended for the front two Cloke and Eddy. Both however did go close to scoring in the first-half but as did their visitors as well to be honest. Second half arrived and I expected River Allen to be introduced for the restart but no! Pretty much on the hour Rio Ward came on and then soon followed by River and Sam Buckley but within practically seconds St Blazey went behind when Giler was a little too keen to get in a tackle and the ref pointed to the penalty spot. 1-0 down and disaster soon after when Lewis Russell's back pass is way too much under hit which eventually allowed the visitors No.7 to score their second. I say eventually as although he rounded keeper Brodie Cole, St Blazey were allowed time to get a couple players back into the 6 yard box, but they couldn't prevent the second goal. From here on as one would expect in a cup tie it was pretty much one way traffic with St Blazey forcing the game to Thornbury but there was no breakthrough until practically on 90 minutes when River Allen scored from a penalty. Could St Blazey get back level? Well there was a big penalty appeal from all around a well-attended ground when Luke Cloke went down however the ref waved play on, soon followed by his final whistle in a game that he played very little added on time in either half, even though he seemed to take ages explaining to the players why he was showing them yellow cards. This result leaves 4 Peninsula sides still in the competition, obviously all from the East division, along with Falmouth Town and Mousehole who both won today. JJS
Just as a comparison and to look at old tealeaves - Hartpury won last season's BUCs Premier Southern League (university football) which is the highest league with Premier North League. Totally outplayed Exeter Uni who came 3rd. Video lurking here on youtube of the humiliation 🙂 . Edit- So on paper should be a good match. It depends how much of a settled team they are - its the beginning of the season - University teams can go up and down depending on intake. Falmouth's Tom Moxham also had a spell at Hartpury. Don't know if the policy has changed this season with them being in a step 6 league now, but their players used to turn out for step 4/5 clubs in the area (such as Evesham, Shortwood and Slimbridge)on Saturday's, and with the university teams in the midweek competitions.
