James_Wright
In their penultimate pre-season warm-up game, the last one at home, Penzance scored once in each half to record a win over St Piran League Premier West side Perranwell. The visitors made a good start with centre-back Dave Standing stretching Mikey Flores to a save following a corner, and Adam Casey drilling in a hard shot that Mark Vercesi did well to block. But, as he did 48 hours earlier against Ludgvan, it was Oscar Massey who broke the deadline. Penzance’s new signing was brought down by Standing and converted the penalty himself, smashing the ball confidently to the left of keeper Phil Rees. A brilliant parry by Rees denied Massey a second just before the break. On the resumption, Dylan Walter and Massey forced further saves from the Perranwell gloveman before the lead was doubled in the 65th minute. Alfie Hicks saw a dipping volley rebound off the far post into the path of Matt James, on as a half-time substitute, and the Magpies Head Coach made no mistake. Perranwell should have reduced the deficit five minutes from time when Adam Selley squared to an unmarked Danhi Harvey. But the latter’s curling shot missed its target thus ensuring Penzance a second consecutive clean sheet. Penzance: Mikey Flores, Archie Reynolds, Mark Vercesi, Silas Sullivan (Matt James 46), Dylan Walter, Alfie Turner (Rolandos Samnauskas 46), Alfie Hicks, Kevin Lawrence (Silas Sullivan 70), Oscar Massey, Michael Fitchett (Jacob Trudgeon 46), Kai Baxter Perranwell: Phil Rees, Dan Precup, Dave Standing, Sam Fisher, James Rowberry, Ketan Cooper, Lachlan Brace, Danhi Harvey, Sam Bray, Will Snapes, Adam Casey. Subs: Connor Dooley, Adam Selley Referee: Dave Rowe Attendance: 73 Thecupfootballblogger and Ian Pethick

Ian Pethick
Can tell you're a professional James. Lots of detail, yet fast moving and punchy. Excellent report. (Incidentally, if PZ keep hold of Oscar Massey, is he a contender for the Golden Boot?)
