Gary Hocking
Mousehole vs Melksham Town After a 9am pitch inspection both clubs and the match referee agreed that every chance of the match going ahead should be allowed for and have agreed to a further pitch inspection at 12:30. Tavi Fan
Did the Melksham squad travel down yesterday? Can only assume they’re desperate to avoid a potential mid week trip down to Cornwall but wouldn’t say the forecast is on their side today! They did, and were therefore able to fully participate in the 9am discussion and decision. Tavi Fan

Yes down here already and so makes sense to give it as much chance as possible. Although forecast looks pretty dire!

Melksham probably already feel a bit hard done by having to travel to us for a mid week fixture and assuming todays fixture doesn’t go ahead they’ll now have to go to Mousehole too! It’s their choice though to be playing at Step 4 level and unless everyone has 3/4G pitches, postponements are bound to happen unfortunately! Gary Hocking
The inspecting referee having applied the Guideline that a match should not be postponed based upon a weather forecast alone if the pitch is currently playable, there will be a further pitch inspection at Trungle Parc at 1:30pm. Tavi Fan
I really don’t agree with that rule (or guideline), given that most teams travel to away games on the day of the game. Are there different procedures if a team have already travelled or are local enough to the home side?

Gary Hocking
With heavy rain now actually falling rather than forecast. The referee has postponed this afternoon’s fixture (Mousehole vs Melksham Town).
TheOpinionoftheReferee
12 minutes ago, Tavi Fan said: Are there different procedures if a team have already travelled or are local enough to the home side? Ifafter consultation with the match Referee, the ground is declared fit and the away Clubs instructed to travel, then only in exceptional circumstances should the match Referee reverse the decision. If an early inspection has not been carried out and the match Referee arrives at the ground to find the playing conditions in doubt due to unexpected deterioration in the weather, he should first consider as many of the above points before committing himself to a decision. Tavi Fan
Thanks! Just to clarify; say for example Melksham had travelled at 9am this morning and the pitch was playable at the time of the morning inspection, the referee can’t call it off in accordance with the guidelines despite the weather forecast (which has made the pitch unplayable at 1:30pm?) Not a dig at anyone I just want to understand the rules 🤣
Dave Deacon
And what about if it was only, only, only just about playable at the time of the early morning inspection and heavy rain was forecast and with an opposing team travelling a distance? Melksham although disappointed took the decision with class and good humour and in a gentlemanly fashion. That's the way to do it 😁👍💚⚽ Dave Deacon, Tavi Fan, Thecupfootballblogger and 1 other 3
