Play offs in SWPL ?

Great idea but, as Dave has said, a non starter as long as there's only 1 promotion place.

Topics like this make me wonder what could have been if the Western League/SWPL merger had happened.

That was part of the issue. Had the merger happened then the Western League would lose their play-off place as well.

Maybe football down here needs a complete freshen up now clubs are moving up the pyramid.

Possible idea.........

Western league 20 teams as it is from this season. 2 promotion spots. 4 relegation spots.

Western div 1 reduce to 18 to 20 teams. 2 promotion spots, 1 being play offs.

South West Peninsula prem. Made from East and West plus sideways moves. 18 to 20 teams. 2 promotion spots, 1 being play offs.

South West Peninsula East and West. Smaller divisions of 16. League winners promoted.

Smaller local leagues would help clubs like Porthleven, Penryn, Foxhole, St Dennis, Nanpean at that level with the chance to progress.

This would keep the top South West Peninsula league to a good standard and better numbers of clubs for that level. Play offs would keep interest levels high all season. More relegation spots from Western league would keep that league fresh as well.

Probably no chance as it could involve more travelling for some teams somewhere.

Sounds similar to what we have now although I don’t think making the peninsula league east and west together would be a good idea, as that would make it difficult for the smaller teams with travel etc.

I like the idea of play offs though to keep teams interested right up to the end. Just don’t know if it would work with fitting all the games in. It’s already a stretch.

Just to clarify Paul - your SWPL Premier would be Step 6?

And the SWPL West and East - Step 7 and the same as the two SPL Premier Divisions already in place?

Yes.

Western league division 1 could even be reduced to 18 teams. The remaining sides plus sides from Devon leagues make up a Western league division 2 of 16 teams.
