Barnstaple Reserves

Surely the under 18s could be run concurrently with the reserves?

If by resources you mean money, at step 7 charging £3 entry it only takes 17 paying spectators to cover the referees fees. There aren't too many more running costs for a team that's already established.

Can't understand teams willingness to not have a reserve team. Maybe a small village team where their best team is step 7 or lower it is justifiable but for a step 5 team I think it's a poor effort.

Their immediate rivals in that part of Devon don't run reserve sides. Tiverton, Bideford, Ilfracombe and Torrington focus on the under 18's part of the club. Farther afield, Parkway, Tavistock and Exmouth don't operate second teams, and Buckland have pulled their reserves from the step 7 Devon League and gone back to the South Devon League.
