F A Vase application.

Recommended Posts

A small league of 30 games in the SWPL (West) which has only seen one season previous with this low  number in the  17 SWPL season history

I am surprised that 3 Cornish clubs didn't apply for F A Vase participation Bude-Penzance and Sticker.

Also curious as why Holsworthy were deemed ineligible

Perhaps they consider that fixtures already committed to and the possibility of cancellations during the season, outweighed the benefit of yet more games.
Also it depends on how many teams the clubs cater for, use the main pitch for their games and the consequent surface wear and tear.

Yes, you make good points. Perhaps a post that lists the benefits of entering this competition would help the 3 clubs mentioned reconsider another season?

Not sure what the Vase application fee is but you get a losing F A prize money even from the first tie-

Being successful can be lucrative as Falmouth saw last season receiving around £11,000 from F a competition prize money..

The F a Vase has that mystique and adventure about it and  into the unknown also being early season its likely to be a sunny/dry colourful day.

Not the same for Falmouth this season being in The F A Trophy which doesn't have the same magic or appeal to it.-Being a step 1 to 4 competition the early rounds will be against clubs from their own SL 1S league (22 clubs) and step too far from the York City's. Yeovil Town, Oldham etc

The FA Trophy has nothing like the same kudos as the Vase. NL sides who have interest in promotion and relegation view it as a distraction, they have much the same attitude as the Premier League clubs display in the League and FA Cups.

The Vase is, to my mind, the premium knockout competion in England and Wales. Every club who's in it gives it a good go.

Not the first time Bude have miss handled an application, the new look management and side fully deserved being in that draw.

What are the conditions of entry? Thought I once heard that the home side must pay travelling expenses to the away side?

It's interesting to see Falmouth received £11k but they obviously had a great run in the comp. Presumably they had expenses to pay and it was not all profit?

It's half and half, you split the profit or loss on travelling and everything else. You're making a loss normally on home rounds in early games.

In the days when a coach or travelling could be £800 (as one team claimed last season) then it's loss making exercise.

Thank you for clarifying that. The decision by Bude, Penzance, Sticker now seems to make some sense in my opinion.

£800 for a coach is probably cheap, presumably said team provided an invoice from the coach company?

Would be interesting to see what Falmouth received from the Great Wakering Vase 1/4 final match last season. The official gate was given as around 600 when, to most observers who were there, it felt like the crowd was at least double that. Pretty inconvenient (or convenient?) that the card terminals at the turnstiles went down, and it was cash only for most of the people that hadn't pre bought tickets.

Hadn’t realised that Ian!

There was definitely more than 600 there that day!

Maybe they did't include kids in the attendance 😬
