TOMMY’S BOOK LAUNCH PLANS UNVEILED  from Mike Truscott

A bumper fund-raising programme for Cancer Research UK (CRUK) has been lined up to mark the launch of A GAME OF TWO HALVES: The Tommy Matthews Story, the autobiography of one of Cornish football’s most popular players and coaches over the past 45 years.

Saturday, October 19, has been chosen as the big day.  With Falmouth Town at home to Bashley in the Southern League that afternoon, Tommy will sign copies of his book (cover price £5) in the Bickland Park clubhouse before, during and after the match (kick-off 3 pm).

Then, in the evening, acclaimed events band Stone Roots will play in the clubhouse, with all profits from the night - donations on the door etc - going to CRUK. Tommy’s son Jordan, accomplished drummer and composer, is a member of the band.

Falmouth is Tommy’s “home” club. His glittering playing career included ten years as a pivotal member of an outstandingly successful Town side, making 460 appearances for them. He also played for Penzance and Porthleven and was a Cornwall county cap. His passion for the game also saw him serve with distinction for ten years as the Cornwall county youth team manager.

For the past 30 years, in a multitude of ways, he has dedicated himself to guiding youngsters – from five to 18 – through the crucial development stages of their footballing aspirations.

Hi Tommy.

Looking forward to reading your autobiography.

We had some great times with the Under 18's winning several Trophy's during your time in charge.

Definitely great days Dave and thanks for supplying some much-needed information. There’s a place in it for you too!
