Tom Payne Pen saw us 1 up half time. Oldland came back into it, and we rode our luck with a triple save from Jordan Duffy around 73rd min before they equalised.

However... and I've only seen it once at Kimberley by Dave Leonard in the early 90s, Tom Payne spotted the keeper off his line and from inside our half went for it. Sailed over the goal keeper and hit the back of the net perfectly. David Beckham type of goal. 

 

Last 10 were fraught, loads of Oldland attacks but no more goals. Very well ref'd by Ella Broad. Even the lino had a good laugh with the benches. Good club Oldland - great reception and magnanimous in defeat. 🙂🙂🙂

Nailsea and Tickenham 4v2 St Blazey. Att.80est. Away.10

295 mile round trip today. 

St Blazey had both central defenders away, left back out injured, Will Tinsley went off injured early in the second half so that was a completely new defence. 

Three players arrived from Coventry, Portsmouth and flew in from Turkey having all been away to make the game. 

St Blazey behind early on but level soon after Hird fouled and Newton scored from the spot. St Blazey in front at half time after a good move seen Gilbert score from a yard out. 

Second half a soft penalty converted made it 2v2. A great header made it 3v2 and St Blazey struggled to find their cutting edge again. A last minute penalty made it 4v2. 

Overall a very good performance with the back four completely changed.

Good hospitality at Nailsea. 

Next up, Ivybridge home on Wednesday.

Goalscorers for St.Austell: Liam Eddy 85th and Max Gilbert 90+.

Attendance 126.

Smallish crowd but they will have to come to terms with the fact that St.Austell are now a smaller fish in a bigger pond and not viasubversa as in previous seasons.

The players dug deep and ultimately achieved their three points, there will be many more similar battles ahead.

Brixham 4 Torpoint Athletic 1

Firstly, well done to both sides in putting on a very watchable spectacle at a rain lashed Wall Park! Good commitment and plenty of skill, as well as endeavour.

Blues took the lead on 16 minutes after a superb team goal. Intricate passing and a fine James Moxon finish! Three minutes later the 'Point level things up. A defensive lapse was emphatically finished by the visitors attacker - sorry scorer not known! I need Robbie Morris to help me out here! It stayed 1-1 to HT. A fair score then. The Fish went possibly closest to scoring again via a well saved downward header, but Torpoint looked more composed and had the better of possession and territory.

The second 45 saw Brixham on top, but a breakthrough took a long time in coming. On 73 minutes a looping header beat the visitors 'keeper but not the crossbar, but Kieran Parkin netted from the rebound within the 6 yard box.

83 minutes sees a strong run and cross from Tom Mortimore turned in by a Torpoint defender under pressure. 

Predictably now the hosts are well on top. 90+4 minutes and an audacious lob from Charlie Johansen from almost the halfway line gives a slightly flattering final score. A goal of the season contender! 

Brixham are a decent side. An out and out striker (and finisher), say such as Luke Cloke in the visitors line up, would turn them from a top half team to play off contenders. The Fish are well organised and hard to beat currently. Clinical finishing like I saw today needed to convert potential draws into wins!

What of the 'Point?  A much better team showing , despite the scoreline, than in the one sided home reverse to the same opposition. In view of the player's lost in recent times patience will be needed. For much of the game they were right in it. Nothing wrong with their application and spirit. Hopefully a win to halt their recent run of losses might steady the ship. I hope so. Torpoint are a fine club with an excellent ground and facilities. All the best to them moving forward.

Shock victory for Saltash shook the Prediction League up.

The St Austell win might stem their leaking attendance figures. Perhaps the support needs to be more patient. Much harder League this.

Bit of a shocker for Bridgwater, understand the interim manager is Rob Farkins. Don't think he'll be in contention for the role.

The club's tannoy system needs a volume increase, especially for those of us who seek shelter under the old tea hut.

Actually, David I would tend to agree with you on that! I remember when I was there at the opening league game that I couldn't hear the 50/0 numbers!

Agreed, the first goal was excellent, really strong build up play which you thought "this deserves a goal" and it was some strike from Moxon to fire past Tyler. We did get a bit of joy first half, especially through Mason Elliott, who scored the goal. I thought between Mason, Clokey and Rutter we created plenty in the opening half but were simply unable to find that finishing touch.

Second half was much of the same in the driving conditions. The second was a frustrating one to concede, a good header at the back post and Ty couldn't get back up in time. Not offside, as we called for but strange from the assistant referee to say no "as the initial header was from the Torpoint number 2". Would've been some own goal but Popey was nowhere near it. Third was a great run but Hicks couldn't sort his feet out in time. Even after the third, we had opportunities to reduce the scoreline. Cloke saw a strong effort saved and Chapman thundered his strike off the bar. The forth is frustrating purely due to how the result looks on paper but it was a composed finish from Johansen. 

Ryan has said in a recent interview that one positive result helps change the narrative which he's 100% right about. Good performances away recently have yielded zero points which can leave you searching for answers. Our poor(er) games, Ivybridge (H), give more obvious solutions which Ryan and the team have been able to work on. A week off, barring a couple of sessions, before being back at The Mill Saturday!

Thanks for the kind words Luke. It was good to get a Torpoint perspective from you. Certainly the performance on Saturday was much better than in the reverse fixture at The Mill.

One of my least favourite sayings......so if you don't volunteer but pay up to £13/14 you can't ever complain?

I look at the other way, instead of complaining why not make a difference and help the club by volunteering, maybe you could make a difference and improve the situation, but them I'm a half full kind of person.
