TRURO CITY RESERVES 0 PENZANCE 0
Penzance extended their unbeaten away run to eleven games and moved up to third in the table, a single point behind leaders Newquay, by virtue of a hard fought goalless draw at Truro City’s new stadium.
Manager Mark Vercesi made one change to the side that had beaten Holsworthy on Saturday, restoring Jacob Trudgeon to the starting line-up in place of Lewis Caspall, absent with work commitments. The Magpies enjoyed a lot of possession in the early stages, but did not create a clear chance until the 15th minute when Tyler Tonkin set up Liam Andrew, but his central defensive partner hooked the ball over the bar. At the other end, Mikey Flores twice denied Jack Bowyer with fine saves, whilst Owen Rosevear headed over when well placed just before the break.
Torrential rain greeted the players as they emerged for the second half. Bowyer dipped a shot just over whilst Owen Royes had an effort deflected wide. As the surface became wetter, Penzance’s chances were scarce until Charlie Young found himself in on goal thirteen minutes from time, but was denied by a brave save. Morgan Jones then thwarted the striker again in injury-time with an even better block. City raced down the other end and had a glorious chance to win it themselves, but Flores rescued Penzance with yet another great save from Bowyer, and the points were shared.
“It was another competitive game against a really fit and well organised Truro team,” said Vercesi. “I think both teams will be rueing missed chances and saying ‘what if?’. But that’s football! Another clean sheet and another game to add to our unbeaten run."
Penzance: Mikey Flores, Archie Reynolds, Silas Sullivan, Sam Young (Kam Collins 85), Liam Andrew, Tyler Tonkin (captain), Ryan Townson (Ewan Trevains 55), Charlie Willis, Charlie Young, Curtis Smith (Adam Lewis 85), Jacob Trudgeon (Rolandos Samnauskas 65). Unused sub: Will Trenoweth
Truro: Morgan Jones, Ned Symons, Jamie Lowry, Harry Richards, Eagan Fabby (Taylor McNally 76), Owen Royes (captain), Jack Bowyer, Owen Rosevear (Gabe Turpin 76), Mikey Davies, Alfie Flack (Ben Shaw 85), Lawson Turpin (Reuben Chant 85). Unused sub: Toby Burt
Referee: Andrew Hobbs
Assistants: Ian Pattison, Barry Raiker

Excellent report, good to see Penzance involved at the right end of the table as well. One of the grand old names of Cornish football, well overdue a revival.

One question though, what was the attendance like on his particularly bleak, rain lashed evening? Sounds like the playing surface, and more importantly, the drainage systems are doing exactly what they're designed to do.

Thank you Ian, that is kind. Have not seen the attendance yet - they tend to get posted on Full-Time a few days in arrears. Truro announced it on the night for the Wendron game I attended a few weeks back, but didn't on Wednesday. And I forgot to ask at the end - was in too great a hurry to get home and get the report written up in time for the deadline for Saturday's programme. I would guess circa 150-180.

Thank you John, and thank you for looking after us so well on the night. Very impressed that Reserve Team games are the full matchday experience at the new ground - programme, all stands, loos and catering facilities open, etc. Looking forward to seeing a first team there - Chippenham on Nov 5 pencilled in, if we are not away in the Senior Cup that night
