Foxhole 3 Vospers Oak Villa 1

Saturday 18th October 2008

Victory for the impressive Foxes was never in doubt as Vospers were swept aside far more comfortably than the scoreline would suggest, as numerous opportunities were squandered and Pethick performed heroics to prevent an avalanche.

Foxhole immediately got into their stride and only the keeper's legs denied Warne the opener within two minutes, while Capeling's volley struck the near post three minutes later, before the big striker drove just too high from twelve yards and Warne dragged a set piece narrowly wide. To be fair, Oak Villa were no mugs and played some tidy football but their forwards were well-marshalled by the excellent home rearguard, although Allen ought to have done better at point blank range from Robotham's inswinging cross.

Foxhole eventually took the lead in fortuitous style on the half hour when Warne's scuffed corner was smartly headed home by the stooping Watson, and they really should have extended the advantage by the break but Warne fired past the post, Capeling failed to capitalise on a wayward backpass by Wassall, and both Watson and Butler went close in an entertaining episode of pinball.

The second goal arrived 34 seconds after the restart as Rowe nodded on Warne's corner for Hobbs to force home from virtually on the goal line. Vospers briefly retaliated, Prince almost being pressured into a calamitous own goal by Wassall, who then headed Robotham's corner inches over the bar, while a timely block by Rowe stopped Williamson in his tracks.

However, shortly after Watson's effort had again cannoned off a post, Hobbs won an aerial duel from Butler's corner for Capeling to gleefully smash home the killer third. With half an hour still remaining, the Foxes eyed the real possibility of further boosting their goal difference but it was the visitors who hit back on 68 as another teasing centre from Robotham was met by substitute Deadman, who set up Williamson to drill past Holland from 10 yards.

That was to prove the sole consolation for Vospers, who spent the final 20 minutes camped in their own half, and who had Simpson booked for delaying a free kick and Charlick for a foul on Capeling. Butler shot wide, Warne lobbed over, Pethick foiled Capeling and Rowe nodded beyond the upright before Rickard, making a welcome, albeit fleeting, return saw his free kick tipped over and Carmoyson cleared off the line from Nicholls.

Darin, the results seem to be finally coming for Billy, Graham and the boys. Do you think this could be due to the new additions settling at the club and at this new higher level and credit also due to the management in getting them to gel and play the way they have asked them too?
